stenzo textiles

A new European company has been aded to the volksfaden roster, Stenzo Textiles. This is a Dutch company that offers among other prints, oilily and room seven reprints. I love the vibrantly bright color palette and mixture of dots and florals. The fabrics are to be found under "New Arrivals" by volksfaden.

feeling groovy

Groovy new fabrics from Michael Miller are to be had at volksfaden.

makeover

after
before

I love this "before" and "after" that I found via design*sponge. The "before" dresser looks so familiar, I think it might have been in my brother's bedroom.... (well, okay if not that one then one that was pretty darn similiar) this style was really popular when I was a kid, I think it was called "Colonial" something? Anyway you can get the scoop here on how chrisjobs lovingly transformed this piece of furniture for his niece.
The fabric, by the way is available at volksfaden in the Micheal Miller category "Disco Dots Flamingo".

bags galore

I don't know what the weather is like in your part of the world but we in Berlin are getting the Winter we didn't have this year!! So lucky to get a couple more days of freezing rain and snow!
Oh well, on another note I just thought I would show you some bags that are on their way to Bourgeois Pig. I had fun making these roomy totes with some of our bigger prints. ("Little Tokyo" from Alexander Henry is and will remain one of my all time faves!) So this could be a nice "endofWinterand hopefullySpringisjustaroundthecorner" project for all of you out there. Go for it.

happy easter

samantha hahn

Samantha Hahn is an artist based in Brooklyn who makes beautiful prints. She recently contacted me and sent me a link to her flickr portfolio. Some really good stuff, could make some very unique fabric. Samantha is interested in turning some of her designs into textiles and recently wrote Holly of decor8 and asked for advice on this process. There is alot of good info under the post's comments, so if you have any interest in doing something similiar, go here and check out this post. The images above are some of my faves from Samantha's portfolio. Good luck Samantha!

pop memory

Saw this version of "pop memory" from jek in the box via whip up. This was a game I hated to play with my daughter because I ALWAYS lost and honestly what fun is that? If i was lucky I would get like one or two matches and she would just clean up. Pathetic. This is a cool version , though and I actually might have been able to remember where a print or pattern was. Could have been a whole different story.

lillimendelssohn

Yesterday I went to a lovely shop in the Pestalozzistraße where Spring rules! Lilli von Mendelssohn is a designer who has created her own line of colorful knitwear and womenswear and a few months ago opened up her own shop in downtown West-Berlin in the Pestalozzistr.8. The shop is just lovely, a real aesthetic treat, and the atmosphere is so welcoming. (This isn't always the case in Berlin...)
A few years back , Lilli bought a knitting machine and taught herself how to use it. She created her first collection that was sold in a few selected shops in Berlin. She then opened a shop with a colleague but has now taken the plunge and opened her very own shop. She is quite an inspiration and a creative force to be reckoned with!
She has also been very supportive of volksfaden, in fact she was one of my very first customers. Just recently she purchased fabric for her Spring collection, and made these gorgeous, drop dead skirts pictured above. I am so lucky to know Lilli and consider her a dear friend.
So if you should find yourself in Berlin and you want to check out one of our most interesting (read hottest) designers, then stop by lillimendelssohn, look at her wonderful line, have a chat and a cup of tea, which she offers her customers because she is a sweetheart.

spring has sprung

Well it is officially the first day of SPRING, but in Berlin we woke up to a winter wonderland, everything is finely coated in snow. The sky is a brilliant blue, though and the sun is shining so maybe we aren't off to such a bad start as far as the new season goes, wierd but maybe not bad? HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SPRING!

botanical pop & sierra

Fabrics from two new collections have arrived to volksfaden this week, both of them from Windham Fabrics. "Botanical Pop" is full of bright lovely florals just right for a Spring project. Anna Griffin's "Sierra" is more muted in tone, but very lovely in a reflectively thoughtful kind of way. All of the fabric is to be found in "New Arrivals" at the moment.

welt aus bunten stoffen

I went thrifting last week ( what you went thrifting, I thought you were supposed to be running an online shop....)really quickly, like a blur, in and out, of course ( oh, okay) at one of the absolutely most terrific places to thrift in Berlin the "Rumpelbazaar" and found this sweet little book. It's called "Welt Aus Bunten Stoffen" (World of Colorful Fabrics, how appropriate for volksfaden don't you think?) and it is from the Rudolf Arnold Verlag Leipzig C1 1963. It is all about paper collage and applique techniques. The illustrations are really fun and it even has some very fun patterned papers included. Enjoy.

swell fabrics

Some new fabrics were unpacked yesterday at volksfaden, roses and bubbles from Moda's "Swell" collection and the birds print in pink from Lecien's "My Folklore" collection. The roses make me sigh for summer!

family living

I would like to thank Isabelle Halling for including volksfaden in her list of "mina 9 favoriter" in the March issue of "Family Living"! That was so much fun to get the issue in the mail and see the mention! The images above are all from the March "Family Living", it looks very fun, funky and colorful. Thanks again Isabelle, it is greatly appreciated!
