I just wanted to share some pics of some lovely handmade objects that two creative ladies sent me....Heike Stebner, who I have mentioned before, is the creative force behind kakikoma and Britta Beeh is the creator behind bsimple. I love Heike's new breakfast/cutting boards and the purple gecko bag she has in her shop now, and Britta has some lovely scarves for adults and kids in her shop...handmade forever!!!

earth day

Here is a Japanese video about the cotton industry. What this little video shows us is that the pesticides used in growing conventionally produced cotton don't just kill the pests but can be harmful to the farmers and by entering the groundwater through the soil, contaminate drinking water sources for humans and livestock. Organically grown cotton is grown without pesticides, so in fact healthier for the farmers and the earth. I would hope some day there isn't a choice between conventionally produced cotton and cotton grown organically, I would hope that conventionally produced cotton wouldn't exist and that all cotton would be produced organically.

linen blends

Some great new cotton linen blends are online now at volksfaden. These are 150cm wide and 55% linen, 45% cotton. Some subdued colors and some not so subdued colors....pictured above are the less subdued.

chez moi

Here are some new delicately colored designs from Chez Moi. The designer behind Chez Moi handpaints each of her designs first in traditional water colors before they are transposed into fabric. I think this gives them a very soft coloring and design sensibility. Very feminine. volksfaden

maison sajou, paris

A few weeks ago I went to the big trade fair in Cologne, Handarbeit & Hobby, and fell in love with the products of Maison Sajou. The packaging alone is fabulous, and of course the products are lovely. Pictured above are some of their 100% cotton ribbons we are now offering to you at Volksfaden.

cut*leute machen kleider

Our first magazine in our magazine category was just put online. It is the German DIY magazine Cut*Kleider Machen Leute. We have the newest issue, #3, but also still have #2 isues which are, from what I gather, pretty much sold out. There are some very cool things in both issues, my daughter grabbed my issue #3 and has decided it is hers, but I did get to glance through it before it was taken....a very fun oversized t-shirt is in #3, also info on creating your own label, sewing patterns and so much more.

Here are from some very girly fabrics from a guy. David Walker has done a couple of collections for little guys but this is his first little girl collection "Hopscotch". Pink, of course plays a prominent role, as do little girls playing ring around the rosie, jumping rope and just being cute! See the fabrics here....

happy easter

The Easter photographs were quite a big thing when I was growing up, which as you can see on this photo was in the sixties!!!! We dressed up in our Easter finery, which by the way yes indeed, included gloves and a hat, and went outside to face the elements. Often an icy wind was blowing and our teeth were chattering while my Dad took our pictures one after another, with our baskets, without our baskets, alone, and then again all together! Small price to pay though for the wondrous Easter baskets with those amazing Fannie Farmer creme filled eggs....
Happy Easter all! Frohe Ostern!
