subtle color explosion

all images from donna schoenherr
Here is an early Saturday morning dose of color. These are images of paintings that my dearest friend on earth has newly completed. Her name is Donna, she was also a dancer, had an international career, and now she teaches dance in London. She has all the chores and responsibilities that all full time moms have, plus her own business, and when she has an hour or two to herself she gets out her oil paints and gives the rest of us glimpses of her inner world. She always makes me think of Louise Bourgeois in that for years Ms. Bourgeois priorities were her family but when she was older and her time came she devoted herself completely to her art, lucky for us, right? So this is to Donna and all Moms who will some day fully explore their creative potential!

flutterby

The newest addition to the Volksfaden family is Tula Pink with fabrics from her Flutterby collection by for Moda.

Just to introduce her to you, here is an excerpt from her designer bio from the Moda website:
"Tula Pink draws her influences from everything she sees, constantly taking in and mentally cataloging her environment. From nature to fashion, nothing is safe from her searching gaze. From receiving her first sewing machine at twelve years old to now she has always valued something hand made over something that can be purchased. Known by friends and family to spend days on end locked in her room making everything from journals to dresses. Ms. Pink is always on the prowl for a new project, jumping up and down with excitement to share her discoveries with anyone who stands still long enough to listen."

So the fabrics are to be found here and if you would like to know more about Ms. Pink you can go here!

frühlingszauber

Here are some pics of our market booth from the open air market last weekend. My neighbor Lennie and I did it togethether and this was the first time her bags went public! She is a scream and we had fun, the weather was amazing and the atmosphere was jovial so all in all it was an experience although enjoyable probably something we soon decided we won't be doing often if ever again! The weather conditions were ideal but because our booth was in the shade we did indeed freeze our behinds off on Saturday! Yeah, it is just alot of work isn't it and also fairly expensive but nice to get out and hook up with folks, even if our feet were numb and our noses frozen.. (we took turns hanging out in the sun pretending to be interested in the tomato plants but indecisive as whether to buy or not just to warm up). So for all of you who did stop by, we enjoyed meeting you!

frühlingszauber

I just wanted to let those in and around Berlin know that this Saturday, April 26 and Sunday April 27, from 10:00 to 18:00, I will have a stand at a Spring Market at Mutter Fourage in Berlin Wannsee. I will have cut one meter pieces of fabric there so it would be a possibility to look and feel fabrics that usually are only virtually visible! Mutter Fourage has a gallery and a cafe and this weekend their annual Market, so if you are in the vicinity, please stop by and say hi! Frühlingszauber, Mutter Fourage, Chauseestr.15a, Berlin-Wannsee

alexander henry

The fabrics pictured above are exuberant Alexander Henry prints that arrived in last week. They can be found here.
Something else I wanted to mention is that I found a very informative blog all about fabric called trueup.net. One of the most recent posts on true up is about Spoonflower, a company that will be offering, as of summer 2008, custom digital textile printing to crafters. This could be really interesting because it probably will offer designers the opportunity to print in small quantities, instead of the usual 1,000 to 3,000 meter minimum. So if either of these themes interest you, mosey on over to true up and spoonflower.
