Cloud9 Beyond the Sea

New GOTS certified organic cottons from Cloud9 are now on the virtual shelves at volksfaden. These are fabrics from their second collection, "Beyond the Sea". I like the fact that the color scheme from the first collection "My Happy Garden" has been carried through on into this collection, so they can be happily combined! Their next collection is already in the works and debuts this weekend at the Quilt Market in Minneapolis.

The next collection of fabrics just put online is "Tweet Tweet" designed by Keiki for Moda. I tried to find some info on the designer and have found out basically nothing except that she is Japanese! Alot of fun fruit graphics and interesting color combos in this collection......

The next few days will be spent with my scanner and computer....I will be putting new fabrics online all weekend....the first new fabrics online are the farbenmix fabrics. Sabine and Janina, the lovely ladies behind farbenmix, asked four of their designers to design a fabric for their first designer collection. The fabrics are 140cm wide and a light poplin, perfect for cute summer dresses for gals or cool shirts for little guys....

Donald Gaylord 1929-2002

Today is Father's Day in Germany, so I thought it only fair to show you all a photo of my Dad...I believe the date is 1961...he was also very handy. My folks bought an old house and renovated it entirely by themselves, my mom made the decisions, my Dad did the actual renovating and the kids were occasionally called in to do the menial labor like getting the old wallpaper of the walls, etc., My Dad refinished the oak woodwork, painted, remodelled the kitchen, did electrical wiring, plumbing, well, basically you name my Dad did it. Miss you Pops.
So to all of you crafty and not so crafty Dads....HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

mom's day

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL OF YOU WONDERFUL MOTHERS OUT THERE! MAY YOU HAVE A FABULOUS DAY!

This photo is a photo of my Mom. She was born in 1932 in the midst of the Great Depression in the USA and by the time she was 27 she had four kids. This photo of her is one of my faves, she was 18 when it was taken, living in NYC and working at her Uncle Conny's gift shop and it seems to me, really happy. (I only knew my Mom as someone who hated to have her picture taken so I am not sure who convinced her to go to a photographer in NYC but whoever did it, thanks!) Unfortunately my Mom isn't with us anymore, she passed away in 1996 and is sorely missed. She was an amazing seamstress and taught me everything I know about sewing. I think she would have been very pleased to have been a part of Volksfaden.
