japanese prints

Yesterday I went to an exhibit of Nô theater costumes at the Museum for Asian Art. The kimono designs dated from the 18th century and the 20th century. The obis and head bands were all newer designs from the 20th century. It is a small exhibit but definitely worthwhile. The kimonos are stunning. Also on display at the museum is the tea house from Ai Weiwei, a house literally built of tea blocks, and an exhibit of Japanese ceramics and of course the permanent museum collections.
I also went into the amazing museum bookstore there and found a great little book called "Modern Patterns of Japan", prints on paper, kimono and old clothing. Pictured here are a few of my faves out of the book..the penguin print is the strangest but probably my favorite!

Gestern habe ich eine Austellung in das Museum für Asiatische Kunst besucht, "Gewänder für das Nô-Theater", eine Auswahl an Gewändern für das Nô-Theater wie auch Textilmustern aus der Sammlung das Noh costume Research Center in Kyoto. Zu sehen sind Entwürfe aus dem 18. Jh bis 1945, Kimonos und Obis. Die Austellung ist nicht allzu gross aber ein Besuch lohnt sich, die Kimonos sind wunderschön! Es gibt auch das Teehaus von Ai-Weiwei und eine Japanische Keramik Austellung die sehenswert sind.
Danach war ich noch in das Museums Buchhandlung, so tolle Bücher gibt es dort! Ich habe ein Buch über moderne Textilmuster aus Japan (Modern Patterns of Japan) gekauft und hier sind ein paar Lieblingsmuster abgebildet...die Pinguine finde ich einfach klasse!
