Anni Albers took up weaving reluctantly after having been barred from other disciplines at Gropius's Bauhaus. She soon came to love the tactile construction challenges presented by weaving and used both traditional and industrial materials, combining jute with paper or cellophane. She was the first weaver to have a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. She is closely associated with the Arts and Crafts Movement in the USA. Isn't it interesting how women work creatively within imposed boundaries and limitations? These designs would make beautiful quilts, wouldn't they?
